"By all means get drunk once in a while"

Is this my Puritan background showing, or is this not best advice for a government minister (Jack McConnell, Labour's "First Minister of Scotland") to be giving to an audience of school kids? I mean, don't even Lutherans have a problem with encouraging binge drinking for school kids? This may be old news for some of our readers Across the Water, but I came across it for the first time in an article here (hat tip to NRO's Corner a few days back). In it, Gillian Bowditch offers a few reasons why you might want to go a little harder on the "don't get drunk" advice with your daughters than your sons. It turns out that in drinking, men and women are (surprise!) different.
